Hills Like White Elephants
“Hills like white elephants” of the story of the American writer Ernest Miller Hemingway.Style of this writer is short and rich, significantly influenced the literature of the XX century. The fact that once missed, will never come back. The story “White elephants” describes a problem that often occurs in our life. The heroes of the story discuss the topic of abortion. In my opinion, the hills on one side of the station symbolize motherhood for the woman. She compares them with white elephants, which delight her just as she would have delighted her in the birth of a child. And for a man, hills are a heavy and unwanted cargo. On the other side of the station is a wasteland on which nothing grows. For a woman, this is the loss of a child, after which her life will not make any sense. And for men – freedom, travel. Now they are sitting at the station. The station is an intermediate position and it depends on them what decision they will take. A woman is ready for anything for a man, even for an abortion. But she returns several times to the image of white elephants, hinting to the man that she wants this child. She realizes that she can not exist with him after this loss. She does not care what happens to her after the operation – she will survive or not. But the man does not want to lose her and no longer insists on abortion. He gives the right choice for Jig.
